Cruiser 80 250cc Stiff throttle

Post  dianel on Wed Jul 06, 2011 10:42 am

The throttle on my Francis Barnett Cruiser 80 250cc, 1967 becomes stiff at a point near 1/2 revs. It is well greased.
Can the internal rotating alloy cable spool be tight in the external chrome alloy casing and needs some skilled fine filing; a bit like a gunsmith filing a guns metal components to give the perfect fit?

Perhaps there is a high spot on the spool.

Any suggestions most welcome.

If by spool you mean the twist grip. Try it with no cable attached and then you will see. Its a bit unlikley to be this unless it been standing and corroded. be sure the little grub screw under the twist grip is not adjusted too tight as this will make it stiff. Try to get some oil down the cable from the top.

Thanks for the advice.
By 'spool' I mean the alloy part inside, which the cable rotates with in a groove as it turns.
