Kestrel 66 gaiters

Post  bessybarnett on Tue Jun 07, 2011 10:18 am

Hi All, can anyone help me please.

I am looking to replace the rubber gaiters on my Kestrel 66. The existing ones are splitting vertically even though the rubber is in good nick!

The dimensions are :
- top internal diameter is 1-1/4"(i.e. one and a quarter inches.)
- bottom internal diameter is 7/8".
- length is 6-1/2"(i.e. six and a quarter inches.)

These are unstretched (at rest) measurements.
On my existing ones there are 7 ribs and they look right, but 6 or 8 ribs would be fine.

There are different examples on Ebay but not necessarily the right looking ones. The ribs on the gaiters for a Bantam are too rounded. I did spot an ideal 8 rib pair on Ebay. They were for a 60's 'ish Triumph. The seller gave part numbers only (which is fair enough) but when I contacted him he was not prepared to measure the items for me as he said he was not a mechanic - which I suppose is fair enough! (even though other Ebay sellers give standard dimensions in their details).

I thought I would try here first before I start ringing around.

Here's hoping. Smile

Pete

Thanks John,

I must admit I never thought of using car steering rack gaiters! I will visit Halfords shortly.

Top tip.
