Horn refurbishment
I posted a horn from my Falcon 70 to Taff the Horn last August which he promised to be ready about Christmas time. I have today contacted him and he is returning it untouched. He advises me that the 55,000 MG Club members take priority and he is unable to refurbish my horn.
Can anyone suggest some other reliable refurbisher?

Horn repair
Why don't you do it yourself, as long as the coil is electrically ok, (continuity+ not shorting to the body) then open it up + clean everything.
You can download a manual from Lucas on how to set up.
I've always done my own.

Try what I did
get a 6v Honda 50 horn and put inside your original and fix it there then put all the covers and tin bits back you then hav a good horn out of sight. If you use any other it needs to be a 2 wire horn so you can keep the polarirt correct.
Thats was Falcon 87 Not sure what size yours is.

Horn Refurbishment
I have at last recieved my horn back from Taff the Horn.
As suggested I thought I would have a go myself. Apart from light rusting internally it looks good. There is continuity on the coil, points look Ok but nothing happens. My question is should the core inside the coil be permanently magnetised or just when a current passes through the coil. Logically the latter.
It is a Clear Hooter not Lucas.
Any suggestions welcome.

As far as I am aware it will only be magnitised when you supply a current to it. This pulls in a small baffle and then it normaly brakes the contact internaly with some form of contact. this then lets the baffle move back and the sequence start again so making it virbrate. Does it try to work when you supple power to it. Sometime a tap while giving power will make them work. The other thing is there is normaly a trim screw to tune it in and this can stop it working.

Hello,
Best to think of it as being similiar to a buzzer or doorbell!
The contacts should be closed intially, this conducts current through the coil which attracts the diaphragm. The diaphragm is mechanically attached to the contacts, which then forced open, break the current and release it; this happens many times a second.
It sounds like yours may, (as has been suggested) just needs setting up by adjusting the screw so that contacts break when energised.
If you want to send me a PM I'll send my phone number should you need more help.
regards, Mike

Horn Refurbishment
It is possible that most of you will have heard my horn blaring out! It is working. It is very satisfying to get a 55 year old piece of equipment working.
Maybe I was lucky but all it needed was cleaning and adjusting.
Thank you for the advice and encouragement.
